‘Abbas Kiarostami’ to go to Belarus

Vagrant Film Festival 2017 is to screen experimental-documentary ‘Abbas Kiarostami’ in Belarus.

The Vagrant Film Festival 2017 has scheduled to screen the experimental-documentary film ‘Abbas Kiarostami’ directed by Midia Kiasat in Belarus.

The documentary will be premiered at the inner courtyard of the National History Museum of Belarus in Minsk on July 23.

It is set to compete with 30 other titles from different countries, including two other Iranian works.

Kiasat’s short film depicts a new perspective of the late great Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

The archival footage is soundly adored with a number of classic Persian songs by prominent traditional Iranian singer Sharam Nazeri.

Kiarostami, winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival in 1997 for his film ‘Taste of Cherry’, passed away on July 4, 2016 at the age of 76.

He was also an accomplished photographer and painter. His last film was ‘Like Someone in Love’ (2012), a romantic drama set in Japan, which was nominated for a Palme d’Or at Cannes.

The late writer-director has been critically hailed as a pioneer of the Iranian New Wave.

He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer.

Vagrant (nomadic) Film Club holds Vagrant Film Festival annually on a day of spring and autumn equinox as well as on a day of summer and winter solstice.

During the festival the club gathers, screens and shoots independent films as a means of communication between independent filmmakers, film festivals and film societies.
